| My view: Weak law encourages secrecy Sat, 10 May 2008 03:39:00 EDT Massachusetts has one of the most toothless Open Meeting laws in the nation. Public officials who violate it face no consequences. A compromise bill recently reported out of committee on Beacon Hill is being touted as a major reform of the Open Meeting Law. But rather than add teeth, it takes from the law what little bite it had. |
| Taylor Armerding: Some random thoughts before they get too, er ... ripe Sat, 10 May 2008 03:39:00 EDT Random thoughts accumulated over random weeks: I got a press release a while ago telling me World Vegetarian Week was nigh. It gave me an irresistible craving for a burger. nnn I used to think ripe was really a positive word. You know, perfect. At the natural peak. Full of health and flavor. Until I got to be my age. Now, my friends remind me that ripe is just this side of rotten. Thanks. |
| Our view: Lack of parking limits access to trains Fri, 09 May 2008 03:30:00 EDT Skyrocketing gas prices have sparked an increase in ridership everywhere in the MBTA system. | Letter: Vote for St. Arnault in Newbury election Fri, 09 May 2008 03:23:00 EDT To the editor: I read with interest a recent letter endorsing Joe Story for selectman in Newbury. The author cited the need for stability in leadership during the difficult times Newbury faces. Essentially, this was a "don't change horses in midstream" argument. Perhaps it would have been better for the author to ask who rode the horse into the middle of the stream in the first place? And do we really want to keep going that way? |
| Letter: Joe Story deserves another term Fri, 09 May 2008 03:23:00 EDT To the editor: My husband and I have known Joe Story for over 30 years. When we discovered that Joe was interested in serving the town of Newbury as selectman, we were thrilled and behind him one hundred percent. |

We all are familiar with the Story family's long history as hard working and community minded people. |

| Bush should point to himself Saturday May 10, 2008 The headline, "Bush blames economy on Dems" (Telegram & Gazette, April 30), reads to me like the child who spilled the bottle of milk and, pointing to his brother, said, "He did it."
