| 'Wanna Bet' you'll want to switch the channel? Mon, 21 Jul 2008 06:00 EST Back during the bad old days of the Soviet Union, an anecdotal observation by an anonymous laborer summed up the worthless currency and unmotivated workforce. "They pretend to pay us," he cracked. "And we pretend to work." |
| Security around 'X-Files' sequel is as tight as Area 51 Mon, 21 Jul 2008 06:00 EST Chris Carter is not the sort of guy you'd expect to produce shadowy stories about government conspiracies and alien invasions. Even as he's hard at work finishing "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" — a new feature film based on the landmark... |
| Green River Festival Mon, 21 Jul 2008 11:57:39 UTC What a great weekend. I know I've mentioned it on my 'other' blog but strangely, I don't think I've mentioned it here, but man, I love my job! Ok, so Saturday was perhaps the hottest, stinkiest day yet and no one should have had to be out working in that heat, but that is exactly what I was doing. This is where perspective comes in. If your perspective Saturday was on the back end of lawn mower, or standing in knee deep hot tar directing traffic, yeah, Saturday was brutal. But. BUT. If you had the perspective that I had on Saturday, it was pure pleasure. You see my perspective on Saturday was from the photographer's pit at the main stage of the Green River Festival shooting up at some really wonderful performers. See some of what I saw after the jump. My day started off with a little Crooked Still. A blue grass band out of Boston. Now, I'm not necessarily a blue grass fan. Ok. So not at all. But I have to say, I really did enjoy them. The lead singer's voice is wonderfully beautiful. If you have a mind to, you can listen to an interview with them here, and there are a couple of links on there as well to some of their music. They are definitely worth a listen. After Crooked Still came Los Straitjackets. Man, OH, man. I think I am now their newest fan! I mean, how could you not love these guys?
There is just something about a musician in a mexican wrestler's mask working a smokin' hot guitar! And could these guys play! Wow! I absolutely am enthralled with these guys, from doing a little research on them I found that they have even done a movie, "Psycho Beach Party". Yes, I will be ordering my copy asap! In the meantime, check out the video they put out for it, here. Oh.. sorry... I'm back. Yes, I got lost watching that video again cause it's just SO much fun! I was so impressed, that when I heard that one of the guys was over signing autographs, I ran right over and had him sign my pit pass. Heh! It is now one of my prized possessions. Ok. Moving on. I then had the pleasure of shooting the beautiful, talented Mavis Staples! She's been around for a very long time and yet still puts on one heck of a show. You can read an review of one of her shows here as well. In between all of these great shows I also had thousands and thousands of people to shoot at. It was a really eclectic crowd, every thing from cowboys, to tie-dyed, to motorcycle leathers, to adorable little kids. Here's one of my favorite shots:
Anyway. It was a wonderful day. Yes, it was super hot and stinky and alot of the stink was coming from me, sweating up a river in the blazing hot sun, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Spec-u-lations This time instead of telling you about the two shots that I've posted I'm just going to send you to the complete photo galleries that are up on the website: Click here for the performers. Click here for the crowd. |

| Comment on No more MSNBC for Comcast proletariat by Karl A Mon, 21 Jul 2008 12:47:26 +0000 I'm not a conspiratorialist and don't think the move was political. I note, however, that Shawn Feddeman is the Comcast official who was given the task of explaining the change. Previous job? Press Secretary for Gov. Mitt Romney. |
